Linking Verbs

So it's been a while since I posted but I want to share a little grammar activity that my kids LOVED. I started out by having the kids act out various action verbs like hop, wiggle, and twist. Then I asked them  to act out "be". At first a few kids started buzzing like bees, but then I reminded them that it had to be a verb not a noun. A few kids started saying " you can't just be, you can be silly or be yourself, but you can't show "be". So then I went on and gave them a few more examples and shared the other linking verbs. The kids caught on that there are certain words we use with verbs but they can't show action by themselves. We made a linking verb anchor chart and then did a few example sentences for am, is, be, and are. Finally, to close the activity, we made linking verb chains. Each chain had a sentence with a linking verb. It turned out so cute!
